Memory: Auction! V4 operates on Windows 10, 8 and 7. We recommend at least 2.0 GHz processing speed and 6GB of RAM for efficient use.
Computer Privileges: Auction! must be installed in an ADMIN account on Windows 10, 8 and 7. Right click on the installation executible and choose Run as Administrator. Once installed, it can be used by standard accounts.
Apple/MAC operation: Auction! is designed to run on the Windows operating system. If you wish to run Auction! (or other PC-based software) on a Mac, you’ll need to make your Mac run as a PC or purchase Cloud, which does not require a local software installation.
According to the Apple website, "every new Mac comes with dual boot capability, found in the Utilities folder." When the hard drive is partitioned (split between Mac and Windows), you may boot in either OS. “...if you need to use a particular Windows-only application, you have a few options: Boot Camp comes with every new Mac, and it lets you run Windows natively — as if your Mac were a PC. "
To run Mac OS X and Windows side by side, purchase Parallels Desktop for Mac or VMware Fusion. Install one of these applications, along with the Windows Installation CDs, and to run the occasional Windows program right next to Mac applications, without having to restart.”
Backups: Backup files are small and easy to copy or email to colleagues.
Networking: We recommend WIRED networks for Auction! at the actual event. Wireless networks at the event are not recommended or supported by Auction Systems because they are extremely susceptible to problems due to wall thicknesses, signal interference, etc. Signal drop-offs and slowdowns are frustrating, and can cause data damage. Microsoft recommends turning OFF wireless network capability when running wired; using both simultaneously can result in interference.
Data may be located on a server or hosted by one of the network member PCs. The host data location must be shared READ and WRITE, or "Allow network users to change my files."
When networking, Auction! should be installed locally on each PC including the host PC in a peer-to-peer network or on a server network. When using a server network, the server must be a Windows Server 2008 or 2012. Auction! V4 must also be installed on the server.
